How to Choose a Rockwool Panel
How to choose a rockwool panel: five-step selection by room use, route, thickness, density and joint, using company catalogue facts only.
- Step order: room use, then route, then thickness, then density, then joint.
- Handmade, Type 50: 50 mm, customisable to 75 / 100 mm. Machine-made, 1150 type: 50–150 mm.
- Density range for both routes: 60–120 kg/m³ (company catalogue).
Step 1: Name the room and the area
Start with the room, not the panel. Is the area a production hall, a laboratory, a food preparation area or a corridor? Is it a wall or a ceiling? Each area gets its own line on the schedule, because a ceiling and a wall in the same room can need different thicknesses. List doors, openings and penetrations for each area at this stage, not after the panel is chosen.
Step 2: Choose the route
Choose handmade Type 50 when the area needs pre-formed openings or conduit routes, a width outside the 1,150 mm convention, or the staggered fibre structure's load-bearing behaviour. Choose machine-made 1150 type when the area is a long straight run where a tongue-and-groove joint gives fast, uniform jointing. Split the schedule by area if different areas need different routes.
Step 3: Choose the thickness
For handmade panels, choose 50 mm as the conventional thickness, or a custom 75 / 100 mm option, confirmed for that area. For machine-made panels, choose a thickness within the 50–150 mm range for that area. Do not carry a thickness from one route to the other without a check, because the thickness sets are different.
Step 4: Choose the density
Choose a density within the 60–120 kg/m³ catalogue range, and state the driving requirement behind it: fire, sound, heat or a combination. This site gives no density-to-performance conversion, so the density choice must be confirmed together with the route and thickness, not chosen alone.
Step 5: Choose the joint, then confirm before ordering
Match the joint to the route: male-female or centre-aluminium for handmade panels, tongue-and-groove for machine-made panels. Then run the inquiry checklist: colour and facing, pre-formed work, certificates required, and the items to confirm before ordering and before payment. Before ordering, confirm the minimum order quantity and the lead time in your inquiry.
