Rockwool Density Selection Guide

Density guide: the 60-120 kg/m3 catalogue range for rockwool panels, explained without any density-to-performance conversion.

The range, and how to use it

Rockwool panels on this site use a catalogue density range of 60 to 120 kilograms per cubic metre, set to customer requirements, for both the handmade and the machine-made routes. Density is one input among several: route, thickness, joint, area and room use must be specified alongside it. This guide gives no formula that turns a density value into a sound, fire or insulation result, because the company materials used for this site give no such formula.

A practical density inquiry

A practical inquiry states the room use, the route and thickness under consideration, the driving requirement — fire, sound, heat or a combination — and the density range being considered, then asks for confirmation for that exact variant. That question can be answered. A question that asks only “which density is best” cannot, because best depends on the room, the route and the requirement together. See the density selection page for the checklist version of this guide.
